Guard rarity ladder

Defensive guards in 2 Player Raid Tycoon roll through Rare, Epic, and Legendary quality. Higher rarity generally means better presence on a doorway, but placement and uptime beat rarity flexing. This page ranks how to spend attention and cash on guards without inventing hidden stat sheets.

Tier priorities

S — Legendary on the break point

When you finally secure a Legendary, put it where raids actually break you—usually the vault mouth or the power room entry, whichever enemies crack first in your lobby. A Legendary idle in a dead hallway is a wasted roll.

A — Epic as second layer or opposite door

Epic guards are the workhorse upgrade from Rare. Use them to:

  • Cover the second most common entry
  • Backstop power while Legendary holds vault
  • Replace a Rare on the main choke until Legendary lands

B — Rare as immediate coverage

Rare guards are not “bad”—they are early insurance. Field them the moment the button/roll exists. Empty doors lose more cash than imperfect rarities.

C — Hoarding rolls while naked

Sitting on currency “until Legendary” while raiders freewalk your vault is the real dumpster tier. Buy the roll, place the body, optimize later.

Placement rules that outperform rarity

  1. One guard per critical choke before stacking two on the same pixel
  2. Crossfire with turrets instead of overlapping the exact same angle
  3. Repair walls/lasers first after a break, then reposition guards (defense guide)
  4. Reassess after Predator Missile style tools—clumped defense dies together (update notes)
  5. Tell your partner where the guard stands so friendlies do not fight in the wrong room (Players)

Synergy with the rest of the base

Guards multiply structured bases; they cannot replace missing eco. Keep Factory Building priorities intact:

  • Droppers/conveyors/upgraders online
  • Floor unlocked enough to access defense buttons
  • Mid gun available so you can help the guard win peeks (Weapons)

During Double Cash, do not abandon a Legendary post for a low-value Air Drop unless the rover role is explicit and the anchor stays.

Offense note: reading enemy guards

When you raid:

  • Legendary on vault → consider stronger breakthrough (rocket/missile) or cancel
  • Only Rare on power → power-first plans still fine with mid guns
  • Guards stacked with lasers → bring denial (flamethrower) and patience

Scout rarity vibes before committing both partners into a blender.

Co-op guard management

Anchor owns placement and repair calls.
Rover asks “guard up?” before leaving for KotH/Oddball.
After revenge windows, both confirm the Legendary/Epic is still on the cracked entry—not wandering after a messy fight.

Use Codes surplus on rolls only after the production chain and a wall/laser minimum exist. Free cash feels good on shiny Legendary hunts; it feels better on a factory that still exists tomorrow.

Sample progression night

  1. Session start: Rare on main door while droppers spin (Getting Started).
  2. After first floor: Epic moves to power; Rare stays on secondary peek.
  3. Mid-session raid: note which doorway enemies actually used.
  4. Legendary lands: relocate to that doorway; demote Epic to the alternate.
  5. Post-missile lobby: re-space so one blast cannot delete Legendary + every turret.
  6. End session: write one sentence in chat—Legendary vault, Epic power—so tomorrow’s duo inherits the plan via Players habits.

If you only remember one rule: coverage first, rarity second, ego never.

Mini checklist

  • Any guard online on main door
  • Epic upgraded onto power or secondary entry
  • Legendary assigned to true break point
  • Turrets/walls not stacked into one blast zone
  • Partner knows the placement
  • Re-checked after the last revenge repair

Guards are tempo. Higher rarity buys more seconds; good placement decides whether those seconds become a failed raid or a wiped vault.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for codes, raids, defenses, and co-op play.

What guard rarities exist?

Guards roll Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Prioritize higher rarities on the doorway enemies actually break.

Should I wait for Legendary before placing a guard?

No. Place Rare or Epic immediately for coverage, then move your best rarity to the true break point later.

Where do Legendary guards go?

On the highest-traffic failure point—usually vault mouth or power entry—based on how your lobby attacks you.

Do guards replace turrets and lasers?

No. Layer them with walls, laser doors, and turrets. Guards work best as part of a full defense stack.

How do guards change my raid plan?

Heavy Legendary setups call for breakthrough tools or a cancel. Light Rare coverage still favors standard power-then-vault executes.
